How to enable the WordPress Theme Editor

WordPress offers endless possibilities to customize your site. You have thousands of themes and plugins to choose from. You can purchase premium themes from marketplaces and upload them. Sometimes you just want to make changes to the theme you are already using. That’s where the theme editor comes in.

Finding the WordPress Theme Editor

If you are looking to edit your theme’s files you can easily find the editor under Appearances > Theme Editor.

If you are not able to locate it, it is possible that it is disabled and will need to be enabled.

Editing the settings in wp-config.php file

You will need to have access to your wp-config.php file located in the root folder of your website. Once you have located the file you open it to make the change.

Look for the line: define (‘DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT’, true) you will need to change true to false.
It should look like: define (‘DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT’, false) after the change.

You can now click save and refresh your WP-Admin page to see the Theme Editor.
